Students spend time in each of the businesses by exploring each one in a four day job shadow for an hour a day. During this time students are guided through the many different jobs available at each company and meet with individuals who have hands on experience in each area. On the fifth day of the week the students meet up in the classroom and discuss the experiences they have had with the guidance of a facilitator. Half way through the semester students will change focus to a single job or job area and spend time doing an in depth experience spending time at a company and learning as much as possible about their chosen area.
What We do
How we got Started
Do you feel local businesses offer a wide range of employment opportunities?
Would you pursue a career in Algoma (either short or long term)?
The Healthy Employers Initiative is a class that was started with the idea of bringing the school and businesses into a closer relationship that will help remove stigmas from the businesses and give students the opportunity to better understand the local businesses and explore the different job opportunities.
How This Has Helped
Over two rounds of groups, 25 students have been exposed to local businesses.
